Being a Nurse Sucks

Introduction

Nursing is one of the most tiring and exhausting professions full of politics, and it won’t take long for you to realize that. Being a nurse comes with the huge responsibility of taking care of patients. If anything wrong happens to your patient, you are going to be the one to receive blame for everything though it won’t be your fault.

This profession has extreme pressure on an individual’s life. Sometimes you don’t mind being a nurse by profession. Still, you might feel really exhausted with all of the responsibilities nurses have and get frustrated with working the entire shift. At the same time, you may not have the time for eating or peeing. Working in high-stress environments can lead you to emotional toxicity because you give all of your necessary time to make sure that your patient is doing okay or is properly cared for. Being a nurse, you at times hate dealing with all of the controlling and toxic situations.

There can be many reasons why being a nurse sucks, as you have to face many disadvantages while being a nurse.

Disadvantages You Can Face While Being a Nurse

You can do everything you can to keep your patients safe and even do everything right. If a patient finds a way to get around every safety intervention that you’ve put in place, or if an unfortunate event occurs, the administration will treat you as if you did something wrong and that your actions or inaction resulted in the worst possible outcome even if it led to no harm to the patient. In these situations, your clean record and willingness to go above and beyond with patient care can be easily overlooked. This can be really disappointing and frustrating for you.

Although mistakes are a part of human life, there is no place for any mistake in the nursing profession. We feel that there should be more innovative ideas for nurses. That should help the nurses to deal with all of the stress and deal with reducing their mistakes as it is human nature to make mistakes.

Another disadvantage that most nurses face is the charting system of some hospitals. The charting system of the hospital can be more intuitive than it is now, especially with all of the technological advancements.

Some of the Worst Things About Being a Nurse

Working on Odd Days

You have to work when no one else is available. You even have to work weekends, holidays, and nights, as well as long shifts during the week. You will not be given time off during the summer if you are a new nurse. The nursing profession doesn’t have a slow season where a lot of people can take off and go on vacation.

When you’re a new nurse, you have to constantly deal with everything and focus on your work. New nurses who believe they can pick their own schedule are mistaken. When it comes to scheduling, seniority rules. Being a new nurse is always exhausting. Senior nurses get the schedules they want because they’ve worked hard to get there, and they’re not afraid to tell you about it.

Doctors Can Be a Hard Part To Deal With

Doctors can sometimes give nurses a hard time. Fortunately, the nursing profession has progressed in this area but not enough. To be fair to the doctors, they must learn to trust you. You’re the ones who see and hear what’s going on around them. If you aren’t giving them good information or the information they require, they will let you know.

Managers

Sometimes nurse managers are more like nurses than managers. Your manager is always a nurse. Additionally, the admin frequently changes your nurse manager, which can be inconvenient. At the same time, you can be asked to participate in unit leadership or become a charge nurse. You’ll have to decide whether or not that’s something you would like to do.

Money Problems

You’re not going to be very rich as it’s not a particularly profitable field. Nursing, we believe, is a profession that is affected by the gender divide. You’ll be fine and will be able to make a decent amount of money. However, the fact that you are saving people’s lives but may not be able to afford a family vacation is something you should consider.

If you believe that nursing will make you rich, you may want to reconsider. The days of earning double time or even time and a half for extra shifts are long gone. Hospitals are cash-strapped, or so they claim. Nursing salaries aren’t bad right out of school but don’t expect big raises as you gain experience, which is discouraging.

You, Will, Have To Be Patient if You Want To Be a Nurse

In your nursing career, you will have bad days. There will be patients who you absolutely despise, but you have to treat them with respect. Even though your brain tells you that they’re treating you badly, you still have to put on a smile and treat them like anyone else.

One of the things you must work on is learning to be nice to people you don’t want to be nice too. We believe that most people can work on it, but we believe that it is particularly prominent in the nursing profession at times.

Conclusion

When you have to fake confidence to look confident, asking questions or explaining your knowledge makes you appear as if you don’t know what you’re talking about, even if you do. It seems illogical to the important learning in this field, and it adds to the generalized perception or assumption. All of these things negatively affect those people who genuinely want to learn and have specific learning styles.

It is extremely difficult to make it as a nurse if the patients are emotionally and verbally abusive on a daily basis and the administration refuses to support the nurses.
